How we met

Tim and Jade initially met in early 2012 through a mutual friend, Dylan, when Jade stopped over at the end of a game night Dylan was hosting at his apartment. It wasn't until a month later at a different friend's birthday party that Tim and Jade really hit it off. They discovered their apartments were literally across the street from each other and have been inseparable ever since! Jade and Tim currently live in Athens while Tim finishes his work on his PhD.




The proposal

The day began with Tim and Jade walking down State Street during Maxwell Street Days (where shops put items on the street for discounted prices). Jade saw a 50% off sign at Goodman's Jewelry and joked that Tim could buy a ring there. This prompted Tim to admit that he had been going to buy a ring the day before, until a friend's illness thwarted that plan. After partaking in some sales, Jade went to run errands and Tim snuck back to the jewelry store where he found the perfect ring. He then needed to plan what his proposal would be, since they were leaving Madison in a couple of days to return to Athens.

Jade and Tim had already planned to attend the opening ceremonies for Commodore's Cup (an annual sailing competition as part of Hoofers Sailing Club), so Tim worked with the organizers (our friends) and came up with a plan. During the opening ceremonies, Jade and Tim were introduced as visiting club dignitaries. Jade was directed to sit in the Commodore's chair for a photo op. Jade thought they were done, and stood to walk out of the way of the continuing festivities, but was told by a friend, "you'll want to stay there." She then realized Tim was about to propose! Tim proposed, and Jade of course said yes!
